What is Lumino?
Lumino is a virtual pet for iPhone and Android: a little kitten made of starlight with an opal glow, galaxy eyes, and a golden spark on its forehead. You hatch it from an egg of light, name it, feed and cuddle it, dress it up, furnish its room, and play mini-games with it. Through experience it grows from a tiny spark into a crowned star majesty in seven forms. The tone is gentle and child-friendly: music box, chimes, and Lumino's own little voice.
The problem we set out to solve.
A pet only feels alive if it reacts to every touch, at a steady frame rate, on every phone. Lumino had to animate a soft body, a living face, and a whole room in real time, sound different for every action, and stay fair for children: care without guilt, purchases without pressure, and no data leaving the device unless a player joins the leaderboard.
How we built it.
An Expo app on React Native's New Architecture. Every image is drawn with Skia on the UI thread, motion and gestures run as Reanimated worklets, and the soft body, ears, and face are spring physics. 150 sounds come from a procedural sound palette instead of stock files. The save game lives on the device; a Cloudflare Worker with D1 runs the leaderboard and friend invites. EAS Update ships every commit to Expo Go and TestFlight within minutes, and automated checks catch worklet and import-cycle crashes before they reach a phone.

What we paid attention to.
- 01
Cared for, not nursed
While the app is closed Lumino sleeps: its needs sink gently but stop at a floor, so coming back after a night or a school day never finds it sick. Tests pin these rules.

Twenty languages from the start
The app and its store texts ship in twenty languages. The first screen is a language choice with the phone's language preselected, and a check fails the build if any text is missing.
Where we are today.
Lumino runs in TestFlight with seven forms, five arcade games, a furnished room, and a live leaderboard. The App Store release is being prepared.
